To many, Valentine's Day has become a rote practice. Cards are exchanged, dinner reservations are made, and flowers and candies are bought at the last minute. The celebration of love, courtship and romance is not always most prevalent.


Some have called it the biggest train wreck on television -- MTV's "Sweet 16" show where teens celebrate their birthdays with excess. Two girls from Springfield, Nebraska, decided to do the opposite for their 16th birthday by celebrating their generosity for others.


IRON MOUNTAIN - After four years of helping local children through a community Christmas party, Denise Formolo of the Office of Community Corrections will be getting some help, care of USA Weekend magazine. Formolo was recently named one of 10 honorees in the magazine's annual Make a Difference Day contes.
